Sexual Harassment

  • $125,000 - Female employee suffered through significant sexually explicit talk, provocative suggestions and direct propositions by a co-employee. The activity persisted for over a month until employee reported the actions to the offending employee's supervisor. The offending employee was reassigned to another department, but still had reporting authority over the female employee. The female employee then left the employer citing the harassment and lack of effective reassignment of offending employee as reason for constructive discharge.

  • $49,000 - A male employee was working with his female supervisor on various projects. One evening after a late meeting she asks him out for drinks and at the end of the evening expects more. The male employee rebuffs his supervisor's advances. The supervisor persists in her efforts to enter into a physical relationship with her male subordinate. After several weeks, the supervisor's attitude toward the male employee changes and he begins to suffer from poor employment reviews from the supervisor. Employee reports the supervisor and action is taken.

Discrimination
  • $40,000 - A Nurse working at a local hospital is discovered to be a Jehovah's Witness by her co-employee. Shortly after the issue of her religious affiliation is disclosed during casual conversation, the co-employee and others act differently towards her. She is subjected to harassment at work and denied shift promotion. She reports the matter to her supervisor then decides to leave and seek employment elsewhere.

  • $33,000 - A female mechanic with long employment with a car care facility is subjected a hostile work environment and gender discrimination. She met or exceeded the job requirements, received very good performance reviews but was denied promotions to Assistant Manager and Manager which male employees with less glowing records received.
